"I want to fly like a bird", don't tell me you haven't dream of it ever in your whole life. Well, 'Wright Brothers' made that dream come true in one way by inventing the airplane. But, it made humans fly but not 'like' a bird..!
Now, a Canadian engineering student has lived that dream. He is the first human to fly under his own power, by flapping wings...!!!
Todd Reichert, an engineering PhD candidate at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies ha designed this this device which he calls it a "Snowbird",and it made him fly like a bird by flapping its massive wings using his own muscle power.
Amazingly, snowbird sustained the altitude for 19.3 seconds and carried him 475 feet, with an average speed of 16 miles per hour.Snowbird has a 105-foot wingspan (just six feet shorter than a Boeing 737) and weighs just 94 pounds. Its made of carbon fiber and balsa wood.
Its an amazing achievement for Todd, As Todd puts it" “This represents one of the last of the aviation firsts,”
