Its still a mystery...!! Nobody knows what dark matter and dark energy is. All we know is, its a matter which we can not see. Its the glue that holds this entire universe together...! So scientists are trying to capture and study a dark matter particle but have not succeeded yet.
I did not know much about the dark matter and as everybody else I went to explore the internet..:) I got these very interesting videos on dark matter that I thought are worth sharing and spreading.
I think there is no point in me writing a whole article on what I know about regarding dark matter or dark energy...as our mind grasps something when we watch than we read it...:) So watch these videos and get yourself a little bit of knowledge about us and our universe.
( Image: NASA/GSFC/Arizona State University ) Is there water on moon...? The question that comes into everybody's mind when one looks at the sky, has now finally the answer...!! And the answer is 'Yes'..!!
On June 18, 2009 two robotic spacecrafts had launched by NASA to investigate the moon. The latest results by these spacecrafts show that there is water on moon. The spacecrafts are LCROSS( Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite ) and LRO( Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter ) . The results have revealed that the lunar soil within shadowy craters is rich in useful materials, and that the moon is chemically active and has a water cycle.
The NASA's findings are featured in six papers published in the October 22 issue of Science... I have made a brief list of main points in the findings....
LCROSS and LRO have took out a plume of material from shadowy regions of the crater ( nearly 10 miles above the rim of the crater ) where it may have hidden from sunlight for billions of years and examined it to reveal the presence of water, mostly in the form of pure water ice grains.
Water being the most valuable finding, the LCROSS and LRO also found some more volatile compounds such as methane, ammonia, hydrogen gas, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
These volatiles may be remains of a asteroid or a comet impact but these are also evidence of a cycle through which water ice reacts with lunar soil grains.
After a detailed study of distribution of hydrogen, it revealed that water is not uniformly distributed within the shadowed cold traps, but rather is in pockets, which may also lie outside the shadowed regions.
Robots up there on moon, also discovered relatively large amounts of light metals such as sodium, mercury and possibly even silver.
The ratio of volatiles to water in the lunar soil indicates a process called "cold grain chemistry" is taking place. Which can also happen in other airless bodies in space.
Anthony Colaprete, LCROSS project scientist and principal investigator at NASA said, "water ice was somehow delivered to the moon in the past, or chemical processes have been causing ice to accumulate in large quantities, Also, the diversity and abundance of certain materials called volatiles in the plume, suggest a variety of sources, like comets and asteroids, and an active water cycle within the lunar shadows."
This is such a huge discovery isn't it...??
In future by determining the environment and the place where the water could exist on moon, the exact locations having easily accessible water can be zeroed down
The most exciting dream of humans to live on the moon may come true in future...!! So lets hope for the same...:)
Mysteries about space and universe still remain unsolved. Where are we exactly in this universe? How big this universe could be? Are there people like us on some other planets?.... these are some questions that tickle our imagination when we think about it. Existing theories suggest that the universe is expanding..!! Scientists trying to explain the accelerating expansion of the universe usually point to dark matter which is they say is pushing everything apart.
But an Indiana University has a new theory now. According to it " we are living inside a black hole, that exists in another universe. To be specific a black hole that rebounded like a spring".
It gives you goose bumps just by imagining ourselves living inside a black hole isn't it....?? But there is some serious physics involved in this theory.Nikodem Poplawski of Indiana University Bloomington, the scientist who presented this theory used a modified version of Einstein’s general relativity equation set that takes particle spin into account.
Including this variable makes it possible to calculate torsion, part of the geometry of space-time. There is a phenomenon which general relativity can not explain called black hole singularity. Surprisingly this theory of Nikodem Poplawski explains that too....!!
In an earlier study Poplawski said when the density of matter reaches epic proportions, torsion counters gravity. This prevents matter from compressing indefinitely to a singularity of infinite density. Instead, matter rebounds like a spring, and starts expanding again.
Now in his latest study his calculations show that space-time inside the black hole expands to about 1.4 times its smallest size in as little as 10-46 seconds -- two orders of magnitude faster, for lack of a better word, than the Planck time. This brisk bounce-back could have been what led to the expanding universe that we see today.
But the vhilling outcome of Poplawski's theory says we may not be living in our universe at all; we might be living inside a rebounded black hole that exists in a different universe....!!!!!
We could tell by measuring the preferred direction of our universe. A spinning black hole would have imparted some spin to the space-time inside it, which would violate a law of symmetry that links space and time. This might explain why neutrinos oscillate between their antimatter and regular-matter states.
"Maybe the huge black holes at the centre of the Milky Way and other galaxies are bridges to different universes," Poplawski says. If that is correct - and it's a big "if" - there is nothing to rule out our universe itself being inside a black hole.
